Section 2.0 • Technical Deep-Dive & Architecture

How Exact Chronological Age Is Calculated Across Variable Month Lengths

Computing chronological age in years, months, and days is surprisingly tricky because Gregorian calendar months vary between 28, 29, 30, and 31 days. Simply dividing the total number of elapsed milliseconds by 365.25 days yields an approximation that frequently disagrees with legal, medical, and insurance age definitions near birthday boundaries.

Our Age Calculator performs calendar-accurate component arithmetic: it subtracts birth year, month, and day from the target date, borrowing the exact number of days in the preceding calendar month whenever the target day-of-month is smaller than the birth day-of-month. Simultaneously, it computes exact elapsed UTC days, weeks, and hours alongside a live countdown to the next birthday.

How Leap-Year Birthdays (February 29) Are Handled

For individuals born on February 29 during a leap year, non-leap years have only 28 days in February. In standard civil and legal calendars, the full year completes at the end of February (Feb 28), so by March 1 of a non-leap year, the person is X years, 0 months, and 1 day old.
